Danish startup Shopbox has developed what industry insiders claim to be the world’s fastest cloud based checkout counter, a Point-of-Sale (POS) system that facilitates high speed payment transactions for the hospitality industry. Microsoft and partners have invested around 300,000 EURO to develop a Windows 10-compatible version of the Shopbox system, enabling it to be run on tablets using Microsoft’s own operating system.
By optimising every individual aspect of the payment process, from the software to even the credit card terminal itself, Shopbox has created the checkout industry’s version of a rocket. This is guaranteed to help the business venues Shopbox is targeting with its latest offering, for whom transaction speed is crucial to maximizing turnover and making customers happier.
“We have improved the speed of checkout by at least 25% compared to other very fast solutions out there. This is huge when you’re a business that has to cater a ton of people in no time. Our first customer is a large and well-known venue who desperately wanted to offer faster transactions - we made that happen, as well as offering all the other benefits of a cloud-based POS. For a young, ambitious startup it feels great to be able to outperform the old guys."
Christian Zigler, founder & CEO of Shopbox.
Until now Shopbox has been exclusively available on iOS, but the company’s brand new cooperation with Microsoft and HP has enabled Shopbox' sales to enjoy a major boost. The two giants viewed Shopbox as the "killer app" that would enable them to sell Windows-based tablets to a variety of customers for whom speed and reliability is essential.
"Shopbox has the right software, HP the right hardware. That’s a partnership that we believe in.”
Stefan Jeleby, CEO of HP Sweden
Microsoft, currently repositioning themselves and winning much greater share of the tablet market, viewed partnership with Shopbox and an industry leader hardware company such as HP as the optimum way to grow their presence in this sector.
“We see an enormous strength in this cooperation. By combining Shopbox’ innovation with the trustworthy Microsoft platform and HP’s hardware and support, we can offer a complete solution to any retailer.”
Klas Hammar, responsible for Windows 10 at Microsoft Sweden.
